Golf tee tamper - more cobfoolery

After I saw a video on Aristocob Channel, where Scott says that his pipe tamper comes from a golf tee! I went to the golf store, and I bought a bag of this. 30 tees, wood, MX $59 (around USD $4)

More cobfoolery coming?

Maybe yes ...

Imported from China (what a new :D )

Three of golf tee stick. Besides my red Legend and my notebook Leuchtturm 1917. Hipster mode on!

Cobfoolery - painting

Today is the Earth Day, and a very important document will be signed at UN. In this spirit, I plan to paint Ale Bridge using only cactus drivel, salt and colored soil. 100% ecological.

Green soil color. Just add water and salt, and you're done!

However, Alebrijes are full of color. In that case, and with a pain in my heart, I turn into acrilyc colors. (As a sugestion from my wife, who early in 2010's run a mexican crafts store) I know, Alebrijes coming from 1936, so not a big deal with that kind of colors.

Pipe was protected using Masking Tape

Using brushes, water and glass containers.

Now, add some flamas (lumbre, in Spanish)

The start of the powerful eye...

The shank also full of color. Using the tip of maguey for the detail on picture

Somebody is watching you...

Under the bowl, we have a "little deer" image!

Corn plants ... Mexicans are sons of corn grain.

And also the tamper, special Alebrije Tamper! Bamboo, sanded and insert a normal iron nail on it!

And start to painting!

Tamper also has a sun on it!

We're almost done with Alebrije pipe! Showing how to use the tip of the maguey for decoration, artisans way.

Incidentally, tip of a maguey was used by ancient american natives because of their sharp tip, for to sacrifices and hurt bodies.

My paper for test! On top, a pair of maguey tips!

Thanks to our beloved fellow girl who are besides us during the whole process!  ("Modelo" beer, black)

Alebrije Pipe and tamper - Images (ENG)

The last part of the painting ... and the tamper!

The tamper has some serpents!

But also a sun...

And a labyrint...

An iron nail, to prevent fire my bamboo tamper...

Our Alebrije has a blue moon with white stars,

And a "venadito" (little deer), the sacred plant for huicholes.

A green eye (somebody is watching you!) and a green double headed serpent.

A sun and a corn plant. Mexicans are people of corn. Maíz, has a translation: what keeps live...

And another double sized serpent!

Another corn plant, green color now.

Cobfoolery - The bamboo shank (ENG)

So, we must to attach the bamboo shank to the cob itself.

Fist of all (already done previously) I sand the bamboo, removing the coated-like cover of the original bamboo. How Natura make this so solid and bright layer of coat?

Bamboo with it's original bright

Bamboo after sandpaper! No bright anymore

I use some glue (Here in México, the special for wood is called "Resistol 850"), that I got for MX 7.50 (near US $0.4).

I need some "aserrin". So, I use a mortar to create little chunks of wood, and later passed thru a sifter.

¡Aserrín, aserrán, los maderos de San Juan!

As for the last moment, I decided to not create a straight shank, but with an angle. Using for this my matches box!

In order to save the interior of the cob, I use a piece of plastic tube. That gave me a guide inside the bowl.

I put a drop of glue, and make the joint!

After half an hour, I mix the aserrin with wood glue and then apply to the hollow spaces.

After 24 hours, here the final result! Next step, Painting our Ale Bridge!!
